It was reported that it was approved over a month ago and they were just doing some final tweaks for iOS4, but maybe that was a bogus report? I'm pretty happy with GV Mobile+, but wanted to see what an official app would bring.

My guess is they are working on creating a notification server. The reason apps like GV Mobile+ aren't very good is there is no push server support (since Google doesn't provide any realtime notification support for google voice to 3rd parties). I doubt Google has worked on the iPhone app since they were denied many months ago. So throwing push notifications into the mix will require a bit of development time.

For people using GV Mobile+ you can just use Notifo or Boxcar to set up push notifications. Not the greatest solution but it gets you push notifications of text messages. Hopefully native notifications get built into the official app.

How do I get boxcar to open GV mobile+ app

I use the web based Google Voice mobile site. I have it bookmarked on my homescreen. It works beautifully and feels just like a native app.
