Hi, I take lots of photos. The files are named IMG_some numbers.jpg I don't usually do anything to the photos while keeping them in my iPhone until needed. Also, when I move them to dropbox, I often have no idea what they are as there is no preview.

Is there an efficient way to name the photos immediately? If I rename them, will they be lined up in the order the photos were taken originally?

Also, is it possible to add some memos not on the photos but for my own personal reference? If I do such thing, will the photos also be ordered the way they were taken originally?

Do you have a Mac? If so, then I'd import your photos into the Photos app and name them as desired their. You can then add titles to your photos and export them with those titles as the file names. Or you can sort them by date/time taken and then export then with sequential names (you supply a prefix, such as "2021-beach-vacation" and then they are exported in chronological order: "2021-beach-vacation - 1", "2021-beach-vacation - 2", etc.).

I know of no way to name the photos directly on the iPhone. Maybe there's a third party app that can do that?

As for memos, on a Mac, you can press CMD+i on any file in finder and add "comments" to its metadata. You can also add captions and keywords in Photos on macOS.

Thanks. I am looking for a way that can do all these in a few steps on the iPhone.

File names are intentionally hidden in the Photos app on iOS because "nobody needs to see them".
It was a design choice made with the first version of iOS and there's no reason to believe it's going away.
When an image is added to the iPhone photos app it's automatically renamed to some generic sequential file name. So even if you did rename all your images- the second they got copied to the photos app all the names would be wiped and random sequential names would overwrite them.

When dealing with iOS, you've got to get over the idea of images with file names. Everything is organized and found by visual identification.
Yes - it's lame.
