What is that 17+ mean? For Facebook, I see 4+

That's the recommended age range. 17+ means it contains material that may only be suitable for people who are over the age of 17.

Lol. So Google is for adults and Facebook for kids? Wish Apple made it more clear.

I thought it was the number of Facebook friends that had the app or something.

Google could be used to find mature content like porn. Facebook can't really don't that as easily.

Apple's ratings get the job done, but aren't that 'accurate' per se or refined. Anything with unrestricted access to the web is 17+, which is interesting since by that logic, Safari should be 17+ too...

If I am not mistaken, the rating depends on content type for the app, which is specified by developer at the time the app is uploaded to the app store.

Safari should be 17+ too...

Maybe it is, but since it comes preinstalled, we will never see a rating I suppose.

Seems other browsers are rated "17+" too, though some video downloaders with browsers, which could be used to download porn, are rated "4+".

Hmm. Anyway, I am old enough to look at everything but

In most places, the legal age is 17 or 18, so the 17 is the base they go off. Movie and game ratings follow this too. The one that Apple uses resembles that of games.

I remember seeing somewhere that any app that has a webview automatically gets the 17+ rating. I haven't used the Facebook app in about three years now, but I think it opens stuff in Safari, yes?

Facebook doesn't have objectionable material to begin with. The people you follow are the ones who make objectionable material, and most of the little kids running around with it on their devices are using it with other little kids and their family.

What is the plus sign and number next to an app in App Store?

This is really dumb that to be able to browse the internet you have to be over 17 according to apples app guidelines. But safari doesn't have restrictions. I don't know about apples logic here...
