What is the point of a Google Voice app?

I've wanted one for a while, but now that I think about it, it isn't more useful then the webapp. I've used the Cydia version, which is cool, but doesn't support push for the SMS. Now that gmail has push though, you can just get SMS sent to your email which you can reply to and it will reply to the sms. You can use http://google.com/voice/m for everything else you would need.

GV Mobile is made by someone other than google. So it's not representative of what Google was going to release.

If the official Google app had Push for SMS I'd drop AT&T's texting plan like a bad habit.

I'd think the official App would be much like the website in terms of accessibility. Allow you to make calls, listen to voicemails, send SMS, etc. But supporting it in an official capacity. I still want it. Even without SMS notifications (but that would be an awesome feature)

1. Not everyone can use Gmail's push.
2. Not everyone wants their texts sent to email spamming up their inbox.
3. The user interface of Google Voice's mobile website sucks and Safari wastes screen space.

That's like someone saying what's the point of any third party native apps when web apps were sufficient. however we all know how sucky web apps were when the iphone first came out. no web app will ever be able to hold its own against a native app.

Yes, but for something as simple as checking voicemail and making calls its OK. And I guess if you don't want your inbox spammed, the app would be nice, given that it finally comes out
