What is the simpliest way to unlock 2g iphone?

I know there will be posts out there but Im rubbish at finding them in searches. Im hoping to pac over my number tommorow but will need the phone unlocked. It has been updated to 3.1 software so will that change it if i unlock it with wrong programme?

Use RedSn0w or Pwnage Tool. Both are easy to use. Easiest is RedSn0w
