Hi,

I want to know the trade-in values for:

MacBook Pro 16" M1 Pro 16GB 1TB
MacBook Pro 16" M1 Max 32GB 1TB

Can owners of these laptops please check the trade-in values with Apple?

There is no need to tell me that I can get better values selling them somewhere else. I want to avoid the hassle.

Thank you.

You could follow the process here to get an estimate, but from a quick glance I see up to $670 for a MacBook Pro.

I know this site already. Sometimes the quick glance value is not accurate until a valid serial number is entered. I don't have these machines so I cannot enter the serial number to get the answers.

I want to estimate how much I could lose if I buy M2 Pro or M2 Max now and trade-in when M3 Pro and M3 Max come out. Hope I don't need to explain further why I do this and that.

Thank you

Do you have an iPhone? You can get the serial nos. through your Apple ID in the settings under your devices.

In that case, looking up trade-in values now is pointless. Most current models won't even be listed with a trade-in value yet, so what you're asking for hasn't even been established yet (notice that the iPhone estimates start with the iPhone 13 series, not the 14). Additionally, trade-in values can (and often do) change when newer devices are released. For any M2 Mac, you would be looking towards the top of that estimate range on Apple's website, but that's as good as an estimate as you can get right now.

USD 1235 for 16 32 1TB M1MAX, absolutely ridiculous to the owner. But the other phenomenon I notice is that the trade-in price will increase. An example is that my M1 8g 256g MacBook air increased its trade-in value from its origin 400+ to 515.

Thanks for checking. That is more than a half. Absolutely ridiculous. Any explanation on the increase in trade-in price? How long did you wait?

Thats why you use an Apple device until it dies. The only folks who should be thinking about trading up are large companies that purchase in bulk or that guy that won 2 billion dollars.

That is a good idea but Apple's does not allow older Macs to run the latest OS with security update. Unlike Intel Mac, we also cannot install other OS as the main OS.

Around half a year I find it increased with no explanation, so definitely don't spend too much expectation on that, I was working on selling it by myself right now. Honestly don't want to change from M1 Max at all but 16 is way too heavy and painful for me to carry around.

Well.... it seems to me that if you are saying that you don't currently have access to machines with these particular specs or even access to their serial numbers, it is rather odd that you are asking others who might have machines with the same specs to do the homework for you. Why?

So you don't even own or use the earlier machines or the current versions and already you're worrying about future trade-in value? Why is that so important to you? Why not simply just buy and use what you need when you need it? If it's now, fine. If it's not until next year or the year after, that's fine, too. Think about it: is it realistic or important to worry about trade-in value for current machines that you don't even own right now? What do you genuinely need right now for work/personal use? Is the need rather urgent? Then buy what you need now and put the future aside until it actually arrives.

I recently bought an M1 MBP Max because I needed it sooner rather than later and although there were rumors about upcoming M2 versions, at that time there was no knowing exactly when the new machines would arrive. As it happened, sure enough, the M2 versions came within a few weeks after I'd already bought and set up and had been happily using my machine. I'll admit that I did experience a twinge or two of regret that I hadn't waited longer, but in the meantime I also have had the benefit of using my machine, and that in the long run is what counts as far as I'm concerned. With regard to the (eventual, years-down-the-road) trade-in value of this machine? I really couldn't care less, as that is something which won't be a concern to me for at least three years if not longer.

As I said, based on the trade-in value of the first generation, I want to get an estimate on how much I could lose if I trade-in M2 Pro/M2 Max MacBook Pro 16" and get a M3 Pro/M3 Max later.

I read that the M2 Max has fan noise when working on computationally intensive stuffs. A 3nm M3 Pro/Max would have a better thermal and performance.

I have been using a desktop PC as the main machine the past few years. Recently I am getting tired of Windows's GUI and some stability issues of the OS. So, I want to switch back to MacOS. I am also considering to use a Mac as a SMB file server and a NAS.
