What is this in the dock?

Alright so I noticed this before and it was driving me nuts. I did a clean install yesterday and now all of a sudden this black bar appears near the dock.

What is it?

It is not attached to the dock it's positioned at the bottom of my screen.

looks like some sort of progress bar that got stuck. Try killall Dock in the Terminal and see if it goes away.

Thanks that worked. I tried using activity monitor and it didn't work.

Or later if happens again just reboot the system. Worked for me

Sometimes this bar hangs in my dock after a finished download, right under the Downloads folder. Restarting helps.

a little easier to killall Dock than restarting.
