I've been surfing quite a lot lately to find anything on how to get the iPhone SIM-FREE! I came across several unlocking articles, though nowhere a follow up if it works.

I really really want to have the iPhone, but I'm from the Netherlands so I need to now if it is possible at all!!

If anyone could give me an heads up on this I would be happy!

I don't think there is/will be any way to get it to work as a phone SIM free.

Right now, you can get it to do everything except work as a phone (iPod, etc) without a SIM.

As of just a couple of days ago, a method, mentioned above, that involved buying a special kind of SIM kit, was created, that would let it be used as a phone with any GSM carrier (and apparently also do data with any GPRS/EDGE carrier). With that hack, it does everything except visual voicemail. The reports appear credible. The cost of this hack is about 60-80 Euros and it is not for the technologically novice.

There probably will never be a hack that will let it work without a SIM card, because the SIM card is so central to the GSM model. The objective is not to make it work without a SIM but to let you use an existing SIM from a GSM service provider.
