Just got my 2.4 SR macbook, had a blackbook previously. This thing makes the strangest noises, if i scroll with two fingers on the trackpad it makes noises like a hiss. Before and after sound effects play it hisses and sometimes i notice it is just making white noise.

I know these are documented issues what i wonder is are they fixable through firmware ? or is this something that is hardwired into the computer and will be a problem forever ?

Seems terrible.

I have had so many laptops that did this and I'd take it up with AppleCare. You will get annoyed to death at the sound. It's either the inverter board, or the processor scaling. Nobody has ever been able to tell me which for sure. It happens whenever the screen updates you will probably find. I have had a HP Pavilion, PowerBook G3, HP nx9005, and a Palm T3 that all did this. On the nx9005 there was a BIOS Upgrade that fixed it. Good luck.

normally it is the processor scaling, not the inverter from the board. i know a lot of sony computers with this problem, dell also. it's since the core duo processors where released. i had never heard from a problem with the pentium m or another processors.

My MBP Merom does the same thing. I just always though it was a 'normal' quirk from what others have posted. Playing any kind of music while working covers it up no problem though.

If it's fixed by updates, when's Apple going to create one for it?

My old dual 2.5 G5 desktop does this when you run any type of 3d application (i.e. WoW). Various OS updates over the years have made it worse/better so here's hoping Leopard is a "better." Honestly you get numb to it after a while (tho as was said, a little music helps ;) ).

If you search the forms about G5 and whine you will prob find a lot more information.

Sony is offering a Bios Update for that problem, but i think it deactivates a function of the processor, I don't know.

I really think that the main problem are rubbishy parts!

what i wonder is should i phone apple and return this thing after i spent a few hours setting it up ? and if i do is it very likely the same thing is going to happen again ?
It is really annoying but my apple love is blind.

What should i do ?
