Myself, coming from a 2008 iMac, it's nice to be up to date again with regards to OS.

I also like the fact that this Mac is portable, whereas my iMac obviously wasn't.

As for speed, I don't think I can compare, as my iMac was so old. This machine seems fast, but I think anything would have seemed fast when comparing to a 2008 machine.

What aspect of your M1 most impresses you?

Battery life and heat. Those two things are what made me abandon the Mac a few years ago and go to iPad Pro full time. I'm still in shock that I am back on a MacBook Air as my main machine again. But a MacBook that gets twice the battery life of my 12.9" iPad Pro and almost never gets so much as warm to the touch--that's a no-brainer.

My last personally owned Mac was a 13" MacBook Pro--it was the model right before the first butterfly keyboard Macs. I loved it, but I couldn't use it in bed because it got far too hot even with light use. And I hated using it for recording because I always had to spend time noise-gating out the jet engine of a fan it had. All of those gripes obviously apply to my 15" work MacBook Pro as well.

Bonus perk: Going from a 12.9" iPad Pro to a 13" MacBook Air made me realize that the aspect ratio of the 12.9" iPad Pro is not ideal for laptop-type tasks. The 13" MBA screen feels more spacious and versatile, even though it's roughly the same screen area as the iPad Pro. Haven't pinpointed why it feels like that yet--I think it's just more appropriate for media and the OS makes better use of the screen real estate in general.

Speed, responsiveness, lack of fan noise, and being able to replace a 16" MBP with 13" MB Air (or 14" MBP) are the big wins for me. I am now able to get same or better performance in a laptop that is much easier to carry around.

I don't own an M1 Mac yet (sorry if I shouldn't be responding then), but I can tell you that battery life and [no] heat is also what I'm most looking forward to in an M1 Mac.

My 2018 15" MBP has been running warm/hot and the battery life hasn't been great lately. It's very annoying.

It pinches my hand when opening the lid so better than coffee. When using it on my feet I hold the hinge area with hand and let the laptop rest on my forearm.

It's not overpriced anymore. I was using a quad-core i5 Dell running Linux as my work machine for two years just because a comparable mac would've been over $2000 and the convenience wasn't worth it for me.

No one thing, the M1 Air is a combination of things to make a great laptop. Cool and silent, good enough (let’s not get carried away) keyboard, good battery life, great screen, the fingerprint sensor is reliable and vastly more convenient than entering a password for system settings and suchlike, the cpu has the muscle to easily cope with all reasonable laptop loads, all wrapped in that classy aluminium shell. It’s not cheap as such but beats anything else at the price so I think it’s good value.

I tried to be brief, but I’m so impressed by the M1 Air, it’s an instant classic.

That's exactly my thought. This first M1 Air is definitely a device that will be fun to use for the next few years not only because it will probably continue to run everything I throw at it, but also because it will be a good reference point to this new era in a classic design that I already loved. I'm known to be a frequent upgrader because I'm always a sucker for new designs, but it just doesn't feel it's going to be a necessary upgrade for quite a while with these M1 machines. That's how well Apple stuck the landing on these.

Battery life and silence (no fan). Lack of heat is a con at the moment since whenever I've used the MacBook, it's always freezing. ?

Favorite: Speed. Much faster than my 2015 MBP 15".

2nd favorite: battery life

3rd favorite: No fan, no noise

Can't wait to upgrade to the 16" when it comes out from my current M1 Air.

Upgraded from a 2015 13” rMBP to the M1 air. I appreciate the silence. Improved speed and battery life is nice too.
