Finally upgrading from a 2014 MBP :)

I see prices for M1 MBPs have started to drop. I have been waiting for M2s, but there is someone local selling 16” M1 Max with 64GB Ram 32 core GPU 1TB SSD for 2850, and I am thinking about pulling the trigger on it, but it had me thinking of how the price for these will drop even further with an announcement maybe around the corner. Is it possible that this same machine could be as low as 2500 used? I haven’t followed the market on MBPs for a long time, so I am not sure what to expect.

I think that there is such a strong likelihood of an M2 MBP soon that the market price already recognises this.

Also the M2 MBP will not be in a new body design like the M2 MBA was, so the incentive to upgrade will be less....probably only the M2 vs M1 performance boost which was not spectacular in the MBAs.

So I don't think the market will be flooded with M1 MBPs when the M2 MBP comes out.

FWIW I have just bought a used (6 months old) unmarked 16" 2021 M1 Pro MBP 1TB 10/16 core for £1850 from a well known UK high street chain, with two year warranty. This is £750 off the current Apple Store price. The MBA it replaced was more than enough performance for me.... I switched to 16" MBP for the 1TB, more ports and big screen.

price wise no one knows, but spec wise? most likely same 5nm finfet, most definitely same chassis, screen, keyboard, ports, etc. apple not pushing oled hybrid til 2024, the m2 pro/max is more like a spec upgrade or apple calls it a S year like iphone 5s and 6s.

What’s good about the m2 is those insane efficiency cores

In the USA, no price drop at all.
Or very little.

... Since all the major resellers are currently offering $400 off on the MBP 14/16" models in nearly all pre-stocked configurations.

You're not going to get a bigger "discount" on a new MBP for any more than that.
