What kind of refresh rates are in the 24" imacs?

So I'm thinking of getting my very first Apple computer and I've been researching the 24" imac. I came across this video

which is of someone playing bioshock on the 24" imac and it seemed to me that there was a refresh rate problem. Whenever the screen moved a little fast, it seemed like the monitor had a hard time keeping up and you get something of a blur and stutter which doesn't seem to be from hardware slow down.

Was it maybe just the taping of the video? Or do these types of things happen in FPS games where there is a lot of fast motion on the screen? I definately want a mac, but I'm still weighting the pros and cons of each thanks.

From your description, it sounded like the iMac was dropping frames, but after watching the video...it appears it was just the camera.

I played Bioshock on my 2.5 GHz Penryn MBP. At max details it plays very convenient 25 frames per sec. This is not a measured value though, its my own feeling about the speed. The iMac should be plenty fast to run it decently.

The computer hardware is plenty fast to run the game decently, its not about that. It's a question of about the refresh rate of the lcd. Screens that doesn't refresh fast enough will show things like unintended motion blur.

Such effect is called "ghosting", and yes, it is present with my MBP, but not in such manner that I would not be able to enjoy fast-paced games on it.

Right, but I believe the iMac uses an ips screen and the mbp uses a tft. Ips screens have better viewing angles but slower refresh rates than tft. Of course the only thing that matters is real life performance. I guess in the end I'll just have to see it first hand after I try it myself as I'm getting close to making up my mind.

I play WoW and Battlefield 2142 on my 24-inch iMac and I have not noticed much blurring. I would not worry about it.
