What kind of used IMac can I get for $500CAD

hello interwebbers,

I know not very much about iMacs, other than what my budget is, and I’d like one.

I realize there are a million variables, but what could I expect to get for $500? Also, any advice for buying a used iMac would be greatly appreciated as I’ve never bought a used one before. Finally, horror stories about buying a used Mac are welcome.

ok simple you can get a 2009-2013 iMac on ebay facebook marketplace I just got 2 for $40.00 u.s you should be able to find some that ship to your location recommend using FEDEX though and be comfortable on upgrading the machine.

I think you should be able to find 2012 iMac 27" easily, maybe 2013.

I think you should be able to find 2012 iMac 27" easily, maybe 2013.

Even with a used imac in good condition, say from like 2011 - heck, suppose you found one that was still in box, never opened, from 2011...you still won't get macOS support as that is now a "legacy" computer. You can't get the latest macOS updates and future OS releases.

I wouldn't recommend buying something that old for $500, unless it was for like basic word processing. I'd rather save more and buy an imac that's from say 2017 from the official Apple refurbished store which will have support well into the 2020's...but that's just me.

It's an unfortunate part of being an apple user but that's just how apple does things..they end support for older machines and you potentially won't, for example, get macOS updates.

someone I follow on youtube, a musician, has gone through I think 3 USED iMacs in the last 10 or so years. His last one he was going to get rid of anyway (I think a 2011 model) because he couldn't get Mojave on it (the 2011 model doesn't support Metal). I really recommend saving a bit more and buying a relatively newer used mac, but that's just me.

mojave are more on 64 bit app. 500 dollar wouldn't get a decent mac but a bit risky 2011 imac nvdia ..MAC is about ram..If upgradabled slot ,go for it .If for me i rather buy normal pc if that budget.Still can get new.
