what linux will start 2011 mini ?

i need to do a ssd flash and must start (not install, just try out) ubuntu or similar in my mini i7 2011 ..

this does'nt start: ubuntu-11.10-desktop-i386.iso

here, after choosen language the screen stays forever grey.

I don't get your question 100%. I think what you want to ask is how you boot from the image? You can't just double click the .iso and boot into Linux.

2 common ways:

1) Get a blank DVD. Insert DVD into Mac. Open Disk Utility. Drag your .iso image to the left side panel of the Disk Utility App. Click Burn button, and the ISO will burn to the blank DVD. When done, reboot your Mac and hold down the Option button. A selection screen will appear, and a second drive should appear that says "Windows" (Don't worry it's your Linux ISO DVD but for some reason it says Windows) select that, and you're golden.

2) Same process, but instead of a blank DVD, get a FireWire or Thunderbolt drive (I'm almost sure that a USB drive won't boot in some Macs because of firmware jibberjabber). Plug the drive, go to Disk Utility, select your drive from the left and go to the Restore tab (WARNING: Any information on that drive will be erased, you can make a partition for that, you can google that) and then drag your drive from the left list to the Destination, and the ISO image to the Source. When done, repeat boot from process and you're golden.

i burned a .iso but there are difficulties to start the mini, means it starts, loads a lot of unknewn things and before desktop the screen stays grey ...

the mini i7 2011 seems to be "special"

with 2010 machine no problems.

Check that the file you downloaded is good to go. Check the MD5 or SHA tags are correct, you can get the tags from the site you downloaded the .iso, then run terminal "md5 <yourLinuxImage.iso>" and compare the tags, if they're identical then you're good to go, if not, redownload the file and burn it all over again.
