I am thinking about what memory I should buy for my MacBook when I order it in two weeks. My dilemma is who to order from and what I should order from the factory. Would it be less to subtract 90$ from the order and get it with two sticks of 512? Or should I get it with the 1 gig and buy the other 1 gig from another manufacturer?

I was thinking about going with Crucial, but I just want good reliable memory for a relatively good price... any help? thanks guys

I have the 17" iMac, which uses the same memory as the MBP. I got two 1GB sticks from OWC (one in late January, another one arrived a few days ago). The price was great, and I've always been very happy with OWC memory.

Note that if you get one stick from Apple and another from elsewhere, you might not get the full benefits of dual-channel speed if the sticks aren't exactly matched. I got mine w/512MB (forced to - it was part of the DTK Exchange program with Apple), and I'm selling that stick.

I have gotten so tired of this repeated thread. Please read my countless other responses about what types of RAM do what and how it affects performance.

Agreed. I think every possible aspect of RAM in the new Intel Macs has been covered here. Just search for it. Can we lock this thread?
