What might the new iPad Pro 12,9" actually bring to the table?

There has been a lot of talk of the new iPad Pro 12,9 (and 9,7") being updated. Especially the 12,9" since its 1,5 years old. But what improvements might we see?

Considering how fast it is now, will there actually be something worth needing?

The only thing I can think of is True Tone, other than that I don't see anything more happening... other than new design by a few mm so we all have to buy new covers.

With this said, would any of you consider it a waste to buy the iPad Pro 12,9" now, with regards to age?

I do think Tru-Tone will be across the board For the Pro line. I certainly don't consider the 12.9 inch iPad dated technology. But I do agree we are getting to the point where it should be receiving an update relatively soon with the processor, expanded Apple Pencil support and or new pencil support designed applications.

If it were me, I would not purchase the 12.9 inch iPad at this time, and less I found a very good sale price. I think The Pro line is likely going to see an update by Fall 2017.

Since migrating from an android tablet almost a year ago, my iPad Pro has been very reliable. I use it extensively for my drawings using Adobe mobile apps. Not a major hiccup experience-reliable file exchange between my Adobe apps on my laptop for final tweaks, screen provides ample drawing space, power lasts all day and with the Apple pencil makes it one of the best mobile devices ever invented for artists. True Tone, brighter display (higher nits), higher resolution iSight and FaceTime cameras, additional LTE band support, A10X, Touch ID 2.0.

There can also be unannounced changes like an updated Wi-Fi module. For instance the Wi-Fi module on the iPad (2017) performs much better than the iPad Air 2 according to PC Magazine.

I´ve been reading some artists/photographer' blogs (using the iPad 12.9) saying they´d not find much use for the Tru-Tone in their work.

A USB-C in the new iPads would be a game changer but I'm just expecting the usual spec-ups renew.

I only want DCI-P3, Haptic Touch Home Button, and A10X Fusion processor... and more RAM wouldn't be a bad thing.

I don't see true tone as any kind of upgrade worth worrying about. Maybe that's just me though. The USB-C to lightning cable is needed but I don't think we'll see usb-c in the ipad itself.

Considering the chip and RAM in current one (even though it's getting old), there's not a huge need to upgrade. OLED could add some real benefits but that would seem too costly for Apple at the present. I'd rather see better pencil integration and a spot for it.

We could see some features from the iPhone coming to the iPad Pro line like TouchID 2, Taptic Engine, new Home Button, cameras, A10X chipset and waterproofing (couldn't see much use for it, but you never know). Also the design is still from the iPhone 5 basically, so it might be time to bring some changes to that as well.

Individually these changes wouldn't be so big, but if they did them all at once? Would be pretty cool IMO.

And there were rumors about a 10,5" iPad Pro, not sure what thats about but if it's a larger screen to body ratio they might bring it to the 12,9" iPad as well.

A 12.9 update wouldn't bring much. By this point, it's more about buying a one and half year old product that is technically slower than the iPhone 7.

I think most people are sitting on their money for an update, likely due to Apple releasing iPad updates more frequently in the past.

I would go as far to say that those using the 12.9 iPad, over the colorful and stylish 9.7 iPad, are people using it for professional work, and would be keeping track of its update cycle and features.

Hoping it gets the bezel-less treatment we expect for the 10.5 May be worth looking into if you can slim it down. I found the 12.9 to be to big and heavy when I had one.

1. 1.5x performance increase in CPU+GPU dept by using A10X or A11X
2. Need proper faster LTE modem which does 3 CA 600 Mbps minimum.
3. Better upgraded display with DCI-P3 or BT2020 color support if not OLED
4. 64/256/512 GB options
5. Reduce the bezels and bring down the weight by 50-100 gms.
6. 5 Gbps/10 Gbps file transfer speeds over lightning port to traditional USB-A 3.1 Gen 1/2 cable.
7. Default Weather/Stocks apps needed on Pro device.
8. 2nd or (3rd Gen if available) Touch ID.

What I'm curious is to wether it will inherit the Edge to Edge display and trim some fat I would greatly love that.

Ok...A lot has been said already. I dig a lot a faster USB connection...for a bloody sync that doesn't last like a tape backup!

I would add:

1) a redesigned Apple Pencil with an "eraser" feature and lower latency, that sticks magnetically to the iPad and charges over smart connector while attached.

2) higher refresh rate on the screen to support the new Pencil

3) Bluetooth 5

4) better cameraSSSsssss....! (particularly the crappy frontal one)

5) 12 hrs battery with the new 10 nm A10X
