What movies will Apple TV play?

Hi there,
I'm thinking of buying an AppleTv to stream my movies from my mac to the TV but I'm still unsure what I'll be able to play. I currently have to convert and burn my files onto dvd before playing them and this is time consuming and frankly- a pain in the arse sometimes!

Would AppleTv solve all my problems? Will it play all the movies If they will play in iTunes?

All my films play in Quicklime but I have plug-ins installed, if they actually play in Itunes, will they play on my TV too?

I don't wanna buy something that will be basically useless for me.

The TV only plays certain file types: H.265 and MPEG-4, and then only if they're within certain resolution and bitrate limits. See the specifications on this page: http://www.apple.com/appletv/specs.html Any of your files that meet these specs will play fine on the TV, but the others won't. Good news is you can easily convert the files to the necessary format using applications such as VisualHub, iSquint (free), MPEG Streamclip (free), and others.

I agree with the Sandman's reply. I think it's important the note that although it only supports H.264, H.264 is simply the best compression format around. I've been using Hand Brake & Visual Hub to rip my DVDs to my Apple TV and the quality of hand Brake in particular, it nothing short of brilliant.

I know I'm changing the subject, will the apple TV connect to a 'normal' (non HD) widescreen Tele? I know there is a HD output, but is there a converter/adapter available.
