I'm curious what people ordered so I laid out 13 options. I left out RAM and storage as they can easily be upgraded and the poll would be too huge with those additions.

That's the one I'd get but it's over my price range. I'm the quad-core with D700's. Even that's a bit over my range but I've got a 30" dell, why the hell would I want an iMac. The GPU's are more important to me. I've never had a mac where I didn't upgrade the GPU's. It just looks like I'll have to upgrade now rather than in a couple of years

my custom built pc right now has asus sabertooth P67, asus gtx660 video card, 16gb memory and intel 510 128gb ssd, built it 3 years ago, using windows 8.1
I was not happy Mac Pro did not have sata 3 or ssd support and Mac Mini too limited. I feel PCIe flash memory, a good upgrade and prefer mac osx, makes nMP worth getting now )))

Got mine for work and love it. It's not even the power, which is unnoticeable in basic computing compared to my 12-core 5,1 (the main difference is in the time it takes to compile and run programs like assemblers). The thing is whisper quiet, which is awesome.

This is the configuration I have in mind. We should keep in touch somehow. I would definitely love to know your experience before I shell out cash equivalent to three typical gaming PCs.
Current plan is:
- Base model
- Base RAM
- Base disk
- D700 video
- 64GB upgrade
- 3.3 or 3.4GHz 8-core Xeon chip
I'm one of the hex/D500 votes, but it's a BTO model.
I had a hard budget limit to work under, and wanted to spec out the most bang for my buck without needing to resort to 3rd party purchases to flesh things out. I want this thing on my workbench and working hard for me out of the box on day 1 without any fiddly stuff.
In the end (with my retired military discount, Apple Care and tax) I was able to spec out a stock hex and upgrade the RAM to 32 and the Flash to 512. I think for what I do the D500 will be plenty (I use very little thats OpenCL friendly) so I elected not to spend anything extra there--in fact I almost rejiggered my order to downgrade to the D300 but in the end the savings wouldn't get me much elsewhere so I left the default D500 in place. Call it a hedge in case my main software actually does add OpenCL support in the future.

That sounds pretty reasonable to me. I'm still indecisive if the d700 makes sense. I just can't see any adobe application making real use of it in the near future...and that's how I make money, premiere, after effects, media encoder. I'd like to see some media encoder benchmarks with d500 vs d700 machines.
Yeah. I upgraded to CS6 when the CC hoopla started, because I will resist having to pay a rental fee to use software as long as I can possibly live without the CC features. I'm primarily a 3D animation guy so for me CS is post processing software, not the primary load lifter, and I would be amazed if my 3D software were ever modified to use OpenCL. I could be wrong about that, hence my hedge.
AME and Pr will absolutely make use of the cards in the CC version. You'll just have to edit or delete the OpenCL supported cards text file in both applications' directories.
thought it was going to be the 6core/d500 for the past month but i've ended up with the 6core/d700..
would like the 8core as it seems best for my immediate needs (CAD / 3D modeling / rendering) but it's outside of my spending limits..
that said, my rendering software developers are in the process of redoing the openCL implementation beyond what they currently have available and after that occurs, i'm pretty sure i'll prefer the 6core anyway..
