Hi all,
I love Time Machine and the way it works, but am probably going into Windoze world (for work reasons). What non-iCloud do you use, and why? I hear Backblaze does unlimited backup for around $50 US, but has a cumbersome restore feature. I probably don't need more than Idrive's 2TB feature, but wanted to hear if anyone else had used Backblaze and found the restore unworkable.

I still use iCloud as my main back up but I also let my MBA back up to google drive. I pay about £1.60 a month for 100GB of Drive storage.

But that's like 16.00 pounds per TB, per month, when Backblaze is only $81 Australian a year for unlimited? That's about 46 pounds per year for unlimited, as opposed to 3 months for 1TB...

I looked at Backblaze, but the restore "functionality" is a joke and is the main reason I discounted them when Crashplan cancelled the personal accounts a while ago

At the moment, I backup to my NAS and then back that up to the Synology cloud using Hyperbackup, but am open to suggestions of decent alternatives that go straight to the cloud

I also use OneDrive for document storage, etc but don't consider it as a backup because it's not immutable

It’s £7.99 for a 1TB google drive plan a month here.

there
can i recommend using command CV and save with USB and external HDs?
to save much valued time, which no one has anymore, one can drag and drop cluster of files an damages using the same process just by using several command strokes.
this is a great way to save all the files deemed important and will never be found on a dark website, wikileaked and this process will keep those photos of you and wifey in your bedroom.
While this method might be primitive and extremely exerting, command CV will save valuable GB space without the clutter of every language of that epson printer that was never sold to the public as an alternative to that timjobsmachine method.

i hope this helps!

I've been using arq for many years. Originally it was Mac only, but they added Windows support a few years ago. It works much like Time Machine - most Apple users should find it intuitive to use.

You specify the cloud to use for backup (I prefer Amazon S3 for reliability), and must create (and pay for) the account yourself.

Arq meets my requirements for compression, block-level deduplication, and client-side encryption with a non-escrowed key.

It's $50 for the program, but there's a 30 day free trial, so you can test it out to make sure it's for you.
