Hopefully I'm not breaking NDA here, but the Xcode 8 beta is being distributed as a "xip" file. Was this mentioned anywhere today? Or has this file format been around for a while, and I just missed it somehow?
Interestingly, the 10.11 Archive Utility.app already knows about this file type. Also, `file` identifies it as a xar file, but I would think there's something more to it than simply another file extension...
Never mind. Apparently this file type has been around since 10.6. It's just a codesigned xar file. Still, its interesting that apple is choosing to distribute Xcode like this; they've never done that before.
