When the beta came out, I applied to receive the beta and downloaded it, but I never installed it and wondered is it worth testing it on a macbook pro with 512mb 8600 graphics card? Or do you guys say just wait for the real thing and have xp. I will be playing a few games and I have no other use for windows.

XP is dead. End of story. You can cling to it as long as you want but the truth of the matter is there is absolutely ZERO reason to purchase it now for a modern computer. Windows Vista has been good since SP1 was released but people are too thick and stupid to get over their grudges, but even at this point in the game it would be silly to buy Vista seeing as Win7 is slated to be released soon.

Windows 7 is everything that is awesome about Vista, improved upon. Get Windows 7 64-bit and prepare to be surprisingly delighted. It's VERY stable and fast. I too have been running it on my MBP for a while (for gaming).

+1

I never had an issue with Vista after the first few months of bugs. I actually had bigger issues with Leopard up until 10.5.4 so they are equally yoked IMO.

I say Windows 7 because it's slated as being a real competitor to the "mythical/flawless" Mac OS X (note the mythical..). From what I see, it will be the OS that gets me buying PCs once more for gaming and possibly a transition back to the PC....

I am getting sick and tired of the Apple bu!!$h!t and limited hardware for overprices machines.

I'm running Vista 64 on my MacBook. When I ordered it, I was prepared to be disappointed by it, but since I only got it for gaming, I couldn't be bothered. But surprise, surprise! Vista 64 is actually pretty good. It's very stable, looks good (especially compared to XP), has a way more intuitive user interface than any previous Windows version and just works. Now, at least. Not when it was first released. I can't imagine Windows 7 to be worse than Vista, so yes, do yourself a favour and forget about XP and get 7 when it's released. Or, if you can't wait, get Vista 64. It's good.
