I am not new to Mac but I certainly do not use mine to the levels they can go to. I had to retire due to a disability a couple years ago and my Pro has been something I use to process some pics I like to take and basically just to putz. But I have a brand new MacBook Pro (M1) MBP 16.2 SG 16C GPU/16GB/1T on the way as we speak. I cannot tell what OS this new product will have. My current has Monterey on it. Once I get it all migrated over to the new one are there any suggestions I should follow to get it up to optimal running condition? I do not enjoy doing this kind of set up and so on but I know it needs to be done.

Thanks. No expert here on the Monterey and if this is even the most recent OS. But mine seems to work fine so I assume no upgrade will be needed?

Some time this autumn Apple will be releasing the next version of the OS, now named "Ventura," and at that point is when you will have to make the decision about updating, etc. Some people update immediately, others hold off for a software update or two before making the complete switch, and others wait rather a long time before updating.

That said, when you receive the new machine you may need to do a software update to the most current version of Monterey, as sometimes new machines are manufactured prior to the latest update and therefore do need to be brought in line with the current version. Is your current Mac with Monterey up to date?

It'll arrive with macOS Monterey but may require a small update depending on the version installed at time of build.

Picked up my MBP 14 M1 Pro this past Wednesday and it had macOS Monterey 12.3.1 installed. Ran software update and 12.4 update was available to install, which was available back in May if I recall.
