Hello guys!

I have a Macbook pro mid 2014 15" (MacBookPro11,2) with 256GB stock SSD.

I want to upgrade this SSD to at least 1TB.

What SSD do you guys recommend that is compatible, trustworthy plug and play ?

I have only found this:

Thank you!!

I hope someone can recommend me something else. Thank you

True, but you could buy a pre-owned.

At least those are known to always work. The problem with the 2014 MBP is that it does not work well with hibernation and third party NVMe drives, and they also run hotter than Apple's. Other than that, should be okay with some but not all drives.

Someone with a 1 TB OEM SSD may want to upgrade to 2-4 TB and they may want to sell the old one. Someone with a MBP with a broken screen or other problem may sell the individual parts from their MacBook Pro as well. The odds are that you won't find a 1 TB SSD though.

Your three options for plug-and-play are OWC, Transcend, or used.

OWC (aka: macsales) has reliable SSD/RAM. If 'trustworthy' and 'plug-and-play' are your top priorities go for it. They just charge you a +100% markup for that plug-and-play compatibility. If you are willing to use an adapter and adjust sleep/power profiles in terminal you can get twice the storage for the same price from a competitor selling to the PC market.

The newer nvme ones aren't compatible down to 10.9 iirc, and they're a bit finnicky to get working properly. That only leaves a used salvaged ssd, but that's a bit of a gamble on ssd health.
