I’ve just had a notification from Apple that my subscription to Overcast will soon renew. At £8.99, I think it’s pretty expensive so I’m looking at alternatives.

I ditched the Apple app because it was so awful — has it got better? I believe there will finally be an Apple podcast app for the Apple Watch soon, which may be a game changer for me.

What do you use?

Is that a UK thing? I've been using Overcast for free for years.

Apple Podcast app. Yeah, still a mess of an app vs. what it once was, but, free, like that I can download podcasts to the Mac and sync from there (aka manage the storage on the iPhone) and have the ability to sync where left off between devices (though not that important as listen to podcasts mostly via the phone these days, even when sitting at the computer).

Apple podcast for me. One of the things that I love is the sheer amount of classic literature available on there. Most of them are from Librovox or Loyal Books. It has allowed me to catch up on some pretty amazing stories much faster than i would have been able to just reading them.

I haven't really looked into using anything else.

I use Apple Podcast because its the only one I've found that lets me double click and hold to fast forward through inline advertisements.

I hate the revised UI though, I wish they would have keep the old look and feel.

Me too... I think I may have donated once which allowed me to “unlock” the now-Premium version? But I’m definitely not on any sort of annual subscription for it.

There's a premium tier which is an annual subscription but you can get most of the benefits if you paid for the original version back at release time when it was a one time purchase.

I'm getting an Apple Watch 4 and will want to download podcasts to my watch. The Apple Podcast app does that, which is great, but does anyone know if Pocketcasts or Overcast will bring the same feature to their Apple Watch apps?
I checked their websites and asked Pocketcasts on twitter, no response.

Apple Podcast. Begrudgingly. I didn't want to, and had been using Overcast for a while but I changed for 2 reasons:

Podcast library seems to be better (few things I could only find in AP)
CarPlay (it's native so just works)

I was surprised at how much it had changed for the better - it's now an alright app to use so I don't see myself moving away from it anytime soon
