So turns out the 2x4GB Corsair memory I purchased off of amazon is defective. It's randomly causing kernel panics. I will not tolerate this. Back to amazon it goes. Can anyone recommend me a good alternative? I've heard some user are using crucial.. feel free to post and recommend whatever you think will work good with my 2011 i5 Mac Mini.

I always use and recommend OWC and/or Samsung memory. OWC has served well in all installations with the exception of 16GB (4x4GB) on the 2010 iMac. To reach 16GB most had to install Samsung memory which was the closest to OEM Apple configuration.

I got this from Amazon and mine worked great. Maybe you just got a bad batch.

Thanks, I will check OWC out.

How about this?

Redacted.

Did you get the 2x2GB or 2x4GB?

This is the same one I'm returning to amazon. It's defective. Keeps causing kernel panics and giving my the black screen of death every so often. When I run memtest off terminal 5/10 it will fail the first check and say this

"FAILURE! Data mismatch at local address 0x0000000101284160
Actual Data: 0x0000000101284140"

I narrowed it down to 1 stick...

Mine are the 2x4 GBs and mine passed memtest with flying colors. I even let it sit for about 2-3 hours just making pass after pass to insure it was good. I'd suggest just returning it for the same. The chance of you getting 2 bad sets it pretty slim.

That's what I will most likely do. What command do you put in mentest for multiple runs.

IE: memtest 2,4,6,8 or whatever the number of times you want it to repeat?

I did memtest all and it just runs until you hit control+C.

Ok, I will try that out. For now, I am using the factory 1x1GB and seems to be working fine. No panics. I can't believe apple couldn't at least put 4GB.. I will keep you posted when I receive the next batch. Thanks

i use samsung only, as supplied originally by apple ...

same with hynix.

so, if the mac comes with either i choose same make; if i want bigger ram on all banks i take samsung.

all other ram's are maybe cheaper, but not so much to decide them.

Just put the Corsair memory in mine. Works great, may be easier just to get a replacement? :/. I've always had good luck with Corsair, but there are always bad sticks out there.

I upgraded my RAM from 4G to 8G on my Mac mini. I ordered it from Crucial and it arrived in 4 days. Very easy to install. This is my second purchase from Crucial. I upgraded the RAM in my 2007 iMac from 1G to 3G. Easy company to deal with.
