I have had this G4 imac now awhile and have 512 Ram in it , what is the max, where can i get it and what ram do i need

15"/800/512/60 combo drive 2003 model :)

Use something like this to find out what kind of RAM you need. Crucial is expensive but reliable, others are less so. There are many choices as you will certainly be told.

I'll suggest either OWC or DMS...both have good prices, guarantee their RAM to work in Macs, and have great customer service. Both have online wizards to tell you exactly what RAM to use in your machine.

I believe that your machine has two slots and supports up to 1 GB of RAM. If your current configuration is 1 x 512 MB, you can buy a second 512 MB stick for the second slot. If you have 2 x 256 MB sticks, you'll have to get rid of those and get 2 x 512 MB sticks if you want to go all the way to 1 GB.

The G4 iMac 800 MHz actually uses two different kinds of RAM.

THe user accessible RAM socket, just behind the round metal plate on the bottom of the machine, is a PC133 144 pin SODIMM, you can put a 512 Mb SODIMM in there.

The other socket is way up inside the machine, and it is a PC133 168 pin DIMM. This socket can take a 512 Mb DIMM, BUT it is recommended that only someone with technical experience on these machines replaces this module -- if the machine is not disassembled and reassembled correctly, the cooling system can be damaged, and it could overheat, leading to permanent damage.

Thanks
