Short story, I've got the 40" 5k2k Dell widescreen.

My intel iMac Pro can run 3840x1620, my 13" M1 is limited to 3008xsomething
The former is exactly the right letter size to match the iMac/M1 built in screen, the latter is too big.

So, since they atart arriving tomorrow and I have to wait until nov 8, can someone test this out? ;)

I will let you know if mine arrives before that. M1 Max 16". My screen is a Samsung 5120x1440. Sent back a Mac Mini and a MBP 2019 and got a Mac Pro to run it. I have high hopes and low expectations.........

I have a dell U4919DW which is also (5120x1440) and it runs perfectly on my current 2019 MBP. I'm expecting it will run fine with my new 14 inch M1 Max when it comes tomorrow. If I run into issues, I'll definitely post here.

The 2019 MBP runs hot for a lot of people, including me, with some big screens. See https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/16-is-hot-noisy-with-an-external-monitor.2211747/ with over 6000 posts. Pleased for you, if yours works well.
The M1 Air was fast but with max resolution of 3008x846, it had to go back.
Please report back whether it works or not on an M1 Max 14".

Can confirm with a 34WK95U (native 5120x2160) that M1 Pro supports all HiDPI resolutions that my previous Intel-MacBook supported. So this seems to be fixed with the new M1s…

So glad I found out about this issue, I've only used my MBP with its own display. I am about to switch from Windows desktop, to my new M1 Max 64GB that I bought full-time, but it won't be here until early Dec. I also purchased a Dell 4021UQ which has the 5k2k resolution which won't wont ship they say until March 22nd lol. I found other threads stating how macOS M1 can't easily scale these oddball resolutions like it can on its own internal display. So you end up with blurry screen or super tiny everything. I love how easy it is to scale DPI in Windows to 125% or whatever. I really need to be able to do that with my M1 Max MBP and a 5k2k resolution.

So you guys are verifying then that a brand new M1 Max MBP, with a 5k2k resolution external display, can scale the DPI size properly?

Ressurecting to ask: can anyone confirm what resolutions you can get on the Dell 40” 5K2K and the m1 max/ultra?
I have this screen currently alongside an m1 Mini and have to use BetterDummy display to get nice looking text.
I’m hoping that a Max/Ultra will improve matters?
