I've read that the Catalina version of Safari will stop supporting none Apple approved plug ins. This might not be true but I'm curious to hear what adblockers you are running and why?

Another vote for Wipr. Solid, lists based on Easylist and EasyPrivacy, set and forget. No whitelisting though so except via Safari's own settings.

For Safari I use "Wipr" now. Blocking is sufficient and it works without permission to read any of your data, which is a huge plus.

Does Wipr work on Catalina? I tried AdGuard because it was free, and it gave a JavaScript error.

I’m also using Wipr across my Macs, iPhone, and iPad. It doesn’t have ability to customise but it’s light and fast in its default setting which works well for me.

Adguard best atm imo.

Pihole on a RasPi 4 for whole home all device ad-blocking.
It was much more simple than having ad blocking on each device in my house. We have a lot.

Nice, I was thinking to do this as well
Thanks
Even if you've never touched a Raspberry Pi before, it is not as intimidating as some may think.
You download the OS and flash it to an SD Card, I normally use Rasbpian Lite and "Etcher"
Then go on the PiHole website and enter the install script that's listed on their homepage.
Wait for it to finish install then login and tinker around with it afterwards through a web browser.

Adguard all of a sudden won't work? I've restarted, reinstalled and every time I enter my password at startup, the checkmark turns into an exclamation mark, and it stops working.
Can I do anything to fix that?

I don't use browser plugins anymore since switching to Pi-hole a few years ago. Pi-hole is network-level blocking so all devices, wired and wireless and all browsers are covered by it. I love Pi-hole so much I deployed it on my enterprise office network and created a cloud server with it and set it up with Open VPN so I can connect to it when I'm away from home and work.

The Pihole does intrigue me but it still doesn't negate the need for an adblocker when I'm not on my home network - which is often.

You can setup an OpenVPN cloud server with Pi-hole on it. Then connect to it when not at home. That’s what I do. I’m on a Pi-hole no matter where I am.
