Doing preoder through the Apple store app. Are there multiple shipping options? Is launch day delivery extra? If so, maybe store pick-up is cheaper and faster?

Newbie, ordering for my wife. Thanks. :)

First batch of phones will have a delivery of 9/21 with no extra charge.

You will also have a store pickup option listed. You put in your zip and it’ll give you earliest pickup dates and 1-hour time windows (from what I remember) at the locations nearest you. If you’re fast and lucky, you’ll get a time on release day. You might have to pick a store that’s further away if there aren’t times available.

Last year I had to pick Apple stores an hour away from in order to pick up on release day but that was due the Apple store app getting hung up. This year I’m just going to get it delivered.

Excellent thank you. The closest store to me is about 40 minutes away and then the next closest is probably an hour and a half so delivery it is.

Does anyone know if I can buy online tomorrow and pick up in store for the 23rd instead? (two days later than the official launch)

Im travelling for business and won't be at home to collect the parcel. But I want to secure one for when I get back on the 23rd!

I don't think there is a multiple shipping options and no extra. You have to be quick to order to secure a launch day deliver. They either use Fedex or UPS. Usually when stocks are readily available down the road, they do give you the option to do early morning delivery but that will charge you extra.

I’m not sure about in store pickup, but I know that if it ships UPS (assuming you’re in the US), you can have it held for pickup at one of their locations, and they give you 5 days or so to pick it up.

You definitely can order online and select in-store pick up, it may only show the pick up date on launch day, and you don't even have to pick it up your selected time nor on that day. If you don't pick it up that day they actually hold that for you 14 days since it's a paid item and not a reservation.

Typically with in-store pick up, you are given the option to choose the date and time. However, do note that you do not have to go on that day or at that time to pick it up. If you already paid at check out, it's officially yours and Apple Store will not release that one to another customer and in fact, they will hold that for you for 14 days before they process it as return and send it back to Cupertino.
