I have A 2013 27 inch iMac and I really need to update VERY soon. It’s getting VERY slow and sluggish. What should I get? I like the iMacs but they were introduced over a year ago? Does anyone think the iMac lineup will be updated and refreshed anytime soon or should I just buy one in the stores NOW and which model? Or should I just wait? If it’s going to be 3-4 months that’s too long. I just don’t want to buy an iMac that will be updated right after I purchase a new one. I also like the Mac Mini but then I would have to get a monitor with that. Have the Mac Minis been updated lately? Please help a very indecisive guy!! Lol

My guess is Mini and 24” iMac updated later this year with M2. But everyone’s guesses have been wrong recently.
If you don’t mind the smaller screen I suggest the 24” iMac but with 16 GB RAM and more storage than 256GB, if you don’t have any special needs.
If you do, suggest you say what they are.

It is very unlikely that the iMac 24" will be refreshed anytime soon. My guess would be later this year in Oct/Nov.

I would get the iMac instead of the Mac mini. You should be able to find a good deal.

I suggest you consider your requirements, then look at the Buyers Guide here at Macrumors, and then decide. You seem to have several things affecting your decision, and we can not guide you properly without knowing more.

If you don't mind the smaller screen, definitely get the iMac M1. I upgraded last week from a late 2009 iMac and it's already my most favorite Mac right next to the iMac G4.
Sure, the next iMac will be better and faster, but the M1 already is such a big jump, that I simply don't care.

IF you MUST have another iMac, and want a "large screen", I'd suggest an Apple Refurbished 2020 27" Intel iMac (configured as you wish). But of course, BE AWARE that it has an Intel CPU inside, and NOT an m-series CPU.

I would not expect to see a NEW 27" (or larger) iMac for several months yet. Maybe not until longer. Not sure where Apple has decided "to go" with the larger iMac form factor.

If you want a display larger than 24" AND an up-to-date m-series CPU, then "move over" to the "two-piece" form factor, and get a 2022 Studio along with the display of your choice (it doesn't have to be the Apple Studio Display, which is overpriced).
