what should I do with a 2011 27" iMac with faulty logic board? fix it, sell it as is or break it up?

loved my 2011 iMac, but sadly it went in for repair twice, the first being successful. I had the faulty graphics card plus at the same time a failed screen, not sure which caused which, but apple picked up the bill. sadly a year or so later it started randomly restarting (weirdly I could normally stop this by opening civ vi as quick as I could and it would take me maybe 10 failed attempts (the machine restarting before I got civ vi opened with a game running) but when I could the machine would stay on for days..


anyway I digress. so last year I took it in and apple looked at it and told me it was the logic board. advice was it wasnt worth repairing, so I bought a 2017 model and am happy with it.

the old machine is just sitting there gathering dust and I don't know what to do with it. I could just stick it on eBay saying 'faulty logic board good for parts'. or I could pull the fairly brand new graphics card out of it and also the screen and sell them separately as they are less than a year old. or is it worth fixing?

I would sell the good parts - the graphic card and the display separately. You'll get more for those parts than if you sold it as a 2011 iMac with a faulty logic board.

keep it, i have a imac G4 i might repair for fun one of these days, i'm not going to chop it into little pieces,

Google 2011 27" imac teardown - should do the trick

You might need to invest in a toolkit for the hex screws, plus a couple of suction pads to remove the screen.

You could get a new logic board and leave the Mac in the living room. I'm sure you could find some use for it (watching cooking how-tos?)

Or you could make a YouTube video shooting at it with an AK-47.

Or a drop test.
