iPod What should've happened to iPod classic!

I'm not sure if it's just me... Who knows maybe I'm the only one who thought of this .... Apple didn't do anything not one thing to the iPod classic I think that they should have added airplay to iPod classic this would bring it in line with the new iPods while keeping form and function...why don't I get paid the big bucks :D
 
airplay would probably be the least feature I'd want on the iPod Classic. The idea is it has so much capacity you wouldn't need to stream music anywhere.

The only thing I really would have wanted was a slightly larger screen, glass, and a capacity bump to 200GB would have been nice.

Like I said they should have updated.... it's simple add wifi without the ability to surf the web I like the idea of being anywhere and just being able to play my music without docking!

Why wouldn't you want to stream music?

And I think one reason they haven't changed the design to all glass is because (A) people scratch it more or (B) it would look to much like the 5th gen classic which was my favorite but it might be considered a step back in design.

I don't know I think it's functional and consumer friendly why would I want it on an iPod touch and not a classic with superior space....p.s. If it could toast my bread I'd be a happier camper! :D

Hmm didn't know that ...I haven't owned a classic since gen 5 ... Now I only use my iPod touch which does truly take a beating.... well it did until I sold it ... Your right actually my iPod had no scratches on it , I even put it in my pocket with keys:eek:

Sounds like a heavy iPod Touch to me.

Because it's a simple device. You stick it in a dock or just connect it with a 3.5mm cable to an amp/stereo and that's it. It's not a multitasking web device. There's another device for that.

All glass...that would definitely go well. I think we'll have to face it, Apple is trying to push everyone onto the iPod Touch and the Nano.
 
Here's what I would have done:

-Keep the design/casing/interface the same.
-Bump up the storage to the latest 250GB 1.8inch hdd.
-Add bluetooth headphones support.
-Price stays the same.

Job(s) done :D
 
Updating the Classic

I believe Apple definitely had an opportunity to update the iPod classic. I believe they still can. Anything can happen between now and the next iPod media event. The 10th anniversary of the iPod is next year. I hope they do something to promote the iPod classic and the 10th anniversary of the iPod.
 
At the very least, a price cut would have been nice. Otherwise, I would have loved to see a capacity upgrade and an OS upgrade (visual really, I don't want iOS on my Classic ever).
 
I would love to "stream" music from my Classic to my aiport express at home. There is so much music I got in my Classic than in my 16GB iphone.
There will also be new airplay devices for cars, I would love to stream inside my car without the analog cables.

I think Apple's idea of the Classic is to be classic, not a ripoff iPod Touch
 
Let's all relax until this fall and see what happens. Think about it - fall of 2001 was when the Ipod was introduced. Fall of 2011 marks the tenth anniversary. It could very well be that Apple has held off doing anything so they could reveal it as a major change for the Ipod's 10th "birthday." It's the only portable entertainment product they make that still has a platter-based hard drive. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 128gb Classic this fall that has a bit of a new form factor but retains the click wheel. It is iconic. A larger screen would also be very nice with a smaller wheel so it doesn't get to be a huge beast of a machine. I don't think there's any need for touchscreens on this Ipod.
 
Far more likely that Apple will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iPod classic by killing it. One of the main reason for Apple's success is that they don't rest on their laurels but are always looking for new innovative products.

As soon as it becomes viable to put 128Gb of flash memory in the iPod touch, the Classic is dead.
 
If Apple ever made an ipod touch with 120gb just imagine the price. Sadly flash tech is way more expensive then a hard drive, not very consumer efficient. I can only imagine the price being close to $600 or more if it came out at this point. And as to an ipod classic (and by the way why do people keep calling the older ipods 5ht and below classics? Apple didn't use the title "classic" until the 6th gen. And Apple them selves never refer to any ipod as a clasic other than 6th and above gens. Not that I am trying to be picky it just kinda bugs me) with a bigger hard drive. I have heard things about Apple looking to put larger hard drives in the ipod classic, but this goes back to the same issue i mentioned before with the touch. It would coast so much to get a hard drive small enough it is not consumer friendly. But I think as the tech gets cheaper we may see one in the future. But as for now we can all dream that one day it will happen.

i just want them to fix the (long-standaing) compilation bug.

Eventually it will become commercially viable to put 120GB in the touch, which will kill the classic. Flash RAM, like everything else in tech, becomes cheaper by volume every year. Look at how the capacity in the iPhone and iPod Touch doubles most years (2010 was an exception, I admit)

The Classic doesn't run iOS and sells in significantly smaller numbers than the Touch. It's an inordinate amount of work for what's effectively an legacy product.
