Trying to decide which size hard drive to get when I order a new imac. Based on my past computer usage, 320gb would be way more than I could ever fill. However, I am just now starting to get into digital photography, and while I still don't think I'll need more than the basic, I hate to think that there's a chance I would, expecially since the 500gb is only another $90 (ed discount).

What are most of you getting?

The basic rule of drives is you'll fill whatever you have. Depending on how 'into' digital photography you get, you'll probably be fine with the 320GB drive. :)

My math could be off, but I think you'd get 312.5GB on a 320GB drive, and 488 on a 500GB drive.

I probably didn't use the right formula, but wouldn't it simply be 320,000 / 1024 (for the 320GB drive), and 500,000 / 1024 for the 500 GB drive? Probably too simple, I suppose.

Actually, 320 Gb drive, by my math, equated to 298.023 Gbs. 500 is 465.66 Gbs. I'd say get the 500 'cause you'll love the extra space in a yearish.

(320,000,000,000 bytes÷1024÷1024÷1024= real number or Gibibytes, yes gibibytes not gigabytes, that's how the computer sees it (base 2 vs base 10))

Gotcha, thanks. I figured it was more complicated than what I was doing.

Order the 320b one, and them add an external HDD. It´s the best option ;)
