im trying to decide what spec macbook pro to get. i really want the 256mb graphics, but im having a hard time justifying the 2400 euros! im sure the 128mb one would do fine, and its 300 euros cheaper. what do you have, and how is it?

If you're not going to be playing games or doing any 3d modelling, you can quite happily go for the 128mb ati mobility card without any meaningful performance hit.

I bought the entry level MBP with 128MB graphics. I've since put in another gig of RAM, as it was struggling running Parallels with just the 1Gb, but otherwise I think I made the right choice going with the model I did.

Just got my MBP last night. 2.16, 2gig, 156vRam 15.4 Screen.

I played the Civ IV demo when I got the beast, it ran decently.

Get the 2.16 if you think you won't need the extra VRAM. The different is small anyway so you can't go wrong.

2.33 , 160gig HD, ati 256meg x1600 , 17" screen glossy.
When playing COD2 on the windows side in full res with all the features no lag at all. That is the best game I tried so far to test the x1600. Battlefields no problems at all.

I faced the same decision and went with the 2.33. If you're going to use it for a few years, I figure it's good to get the best computer you can afford. You really should be running 2 gigs of RAM anyway, and extra video RAM makes it a better machine for the future.

C2D 2.16, upgraded to 2GB ram, 128mb vram. I would have liked the 2.33, but I couldn't justify the cost as I really don't play games.

Ditto. Adding the fact that i change computers quite often as well to the list.

I went for a 2GHz MacBook Pro with 128MB VRAM. I will probably upgrade when the next revision comes out- although this laptop does a great job at handling everything that I have thrown at it. :)

Why do you want 256MB over 128MB? I have used both and see no difference for normal apps etc. Maybe for games, but i haven't tried any so i can't comment.

c2d with 2gb ram and 256mb radeon x1600

seems to run Maya and Shake ok !

Plus under bootcamp I am running Prey with settings cranked and it is silky smooth .... very happy !

jumped in, spent way over my budget, but got a MBP, 2.33 Mhz C2D, 2gb Ram, 256mb vram, 120 hd 15" screen glossy.

My last laptop cost me over 1700 euros almost 5 years ago, but still runs xp fantastically and is not being retired, simply passed onto my girlfriend who'se pc needs are a bit lesser than my own. the fact that it done me 5 years( and would do another 6 months anyway for me if i didnt want a shiny new one!) made it worth the money. if i bought one for half the price, i would have upgraded it each year, and that would have ended up costing a lot more. Im hoping to get 5 years out of the MBP also, as it cost quite a bit more than 1700 euros!

I bought...

15.4" Matte, C2D 2.33, 2GB RAM, 160GB Hard drive, 256 Graphics.

I also bought Applecare.

Probably the best machine i've ever had :D
