im trying to decide what spec macbook pro to get. i really want the 256mb graphics, but im having a hard time justifying the 2400 euros! im sure the 128mb one would do fine, and its 300 euros cheaper. what do you have, and how is it?

I bought the entry level MBP with 128MB graphics. I've since put in another gig of RAM, as it was struggling running Parallels with just the 1Gb, but otherwise I think I made the right choice going with the model I did.
Just got my MBP last night. 2.16, 2gig, 156vRam 15.4 Screen.
I played the Civ IV demo when I got the beast, it ran decently.

Get the 2.16 if you think you won't need the extra VRAM. The different is small anyway so you can't go wrong.
2.33 , 160gig HD, ati 256meg x1600 , 17" screen glossy.
When playing COD2 on the windows side in full res with all the features no lag at all. That is the best game I tried so far to test the x1600. Battlefields no problems at all.

I faced the same decision and went with the 2.33. If you're going to use it for a few years, I figure it's good to get the best computer you can afford. You really should be running 2 gigs of RAM anyway, and extra video RAM makes it a better machine for the future.
I went for a 2GHz MacBook Pro with 128MB VRAM. I will probably upgrade when the next revision comes out- although this laptop does a great job at handling everything that I have thrown at it. 
15.4", c2d 2.33, 2GB RAM, 160GB Hard drive, 256 graphics...when i bought a mbp, i didn't see the point in doing it half baked!
It'll get you outstanding performance in Aperture and other future Mac apps that take full advantage of Core Image.

My last laptop cost me over 1700 euros almost 5 years ago, but still runs xp fantastically and is not being retired, simply passed onto my girlfriend who'se pc needs are a bit lesser than my own. the fact that it done me 5 years( and would do another 6 months anyway for me if i didnt want a shiny new one!) made it worth the money. if i bought one for half the price, i would have upgraded it each year, and that would have ended up costing a lot more. Im hoping to get 5 years out of the MBP also, as it cost quite a bit more than 1700 euros!
