Hello, friends.

I run a 2019 16" MBP i9 and enjoy it. But it throttles like crazy sometimes, Parallels kills the battery and it isn't the smoothest for 4K video.

Assuming my priorities are 4K editing (4:2:2) + running Parallels for work, is it worth upgrading to the new line of M1s?

If so, can you recommend a config? Would be driving two 4K monitors FWIW.

Based on those specs, I'd recommend the M1 Pro w/32 GB RAM. [mostly same specs as your current Mac] Even though your current I9/32GB RAM does have some smoothness issues, the M1 Pro comes with a faster unified memory at faster speeds & better memory management. M1 Pro also comes with a ProRes accelerator which can help in 4K playback in Final Cut. Especially if you're working with Apple ProRes 422 codex. As for SSD, that's personal preference.

For Parrells, I use a different VM software so I can't as much help. The devs did say that with Ver 17 it does have better performance/efficiency.
