With the release of the UK iPhone, i want to know what speed you're all getting via Edge or GPRS (most people don't have edge)

The way to tell if you're connected to Edge or GPRS is when you're in the Safari browser, if there's a blue square with NO E logo, then you're using GPRS, if the blue square HAS an E logo, then you're using Edge.

I'm using GPRS and getting: 168.2kb/s

What are you getting and what are you using to connect?.

On Vodafone with an unlocked 1.0.2 iPhone in North London.

I get the blue Edge logo and my speed is 364.4 kbps.

test results

Hi

I'm getting 370.8kbps and thats on GPRS thats pretty quick!!!

I'm in Altrincham, near manchester

I can't understand those speeds. I didn't even think EDGE technically went that fast?

Speeds on the internet are expressed in kilobits, not kilobytes !

And as 1 byte contains 8 bits, you need to divide the speed you are getting by 8 to get the real speed as normally used in kilobytes.

So if you have 440 kbps you divide this by 8 and get 55 Kbytes per second.

See here for more examples :

We know this but that isn't the point. Internet packages from ISP's are sold in Megabits not megabytes. So what people are essentially posting up are near broadband speeds. As far as i'm aware that isnt even possible with Edge!

This test is highly inaccurate, in case anyone hasn't realised yet. It reports only a quarter of my true bandwidth  Move along, nothing to see here...

Try this one: http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed

I get 94 kbit/sec (11.75 kbyte) when downloading the 100k test file

Well once again i state that Europe is so much better than American, i get about 200kbps over att edge.

damn, they got to step it up

I spoke to my friend from America about the iPhone. He told me he gets 180-200 via Edge.

We're getting that in the UK from GPRS. :p

O2-UK with the E logo getting 267Kbps. I'm using an imported phone though and would love to know what GPRS/EDGE settings the UK iPhone's have!

44 kbit per sec from DSL
265 from the iPhone network test page
(Currently on GPRS, not even Edge)

I have to say that this thing passes the most important test - user perception - with flying colours. I've been out of Edge range since I got it (visiting my folks in the sticks!), yet even on GPRS browsing is easy enough to be tolerable. Really pleased, and surprised. :)

I am getting 340 on an unlocked iPhone. E logo is present but I think that firmware 1.1.1 always shows it - still happy though.
