Hi all,

I am about to purchase an iPhone 17 Pro Max and was debating if I should go for 512GB or 1TB?
I use Apple Music as my music app of choice and I also listen to a lot of music when I am commuting and at the gym. Even though I have unlimited mobile data, I prefer to download most of my music rather than stream as signal in London can be bad in some places, especially when using the underground.
Do you think 512GB will be enough for me or should I buy the 1TB for peace of mind?

What about if I stop downloading AAC files?
It’s hard to say without specifics. With normal quality music files you could certainly fit a heck of a lot in 512GB. I believe AAC files are normally smaller than their mp3 equivalents.

This might help:

From the article:
A three-minute song will be approximately:
- 6MB with High Quality at 256kbps
- 36MB with Lossless at 24-bit/48kHz
- 145MB with Hi-Res Lossless at 24-bit/192kHz

tough question, how long will you keep the phone, do you accrue songs at a predictable rate (are you likely to double your collection while owning this phone) make an estimate (guess) buy enough storage to accommodate your guess hope for the best

512GB is enough. If you have a bigger library just make a selection with playlists and go for a lower bitrate. I doubt you hear the difference in the subway 😅...

Then again, if you have an enormous library you want to listen to in lossless Atmos, and have money to spare, splurge for the 2TB 😛

I have been downloading lossless music which takes a lot of space I am told compared to AAC

So far on my 16 Pro Max, I have used 310GB storage.
Do you have headphones capable of actually playing lossless music ? The wireless headphones including the AirPods can’t in most cases so I wouldn’t download lossless.. selfmade problem here maybe ?

Downloading every track you ever heard is a luxury. Most of us download the music we just can’t live without, 1,000 songs or so, especially is we live in a capital city.

If you want that luxury name your own price. A 1TB as it’s less likely to hold its original sale price.

I wouldn't say I have an enormous library, I just download new releases that come out, and they come out a lot since I mostly listen to R&B and Hip-Hop.

I get what you are saying TBH
You only need to download the songs that you really want to listen to all the time, otherwise you should rely on streaming, especially as I have an unlimited data plan?
