I'm curious to hear what everyone else's SR MBP runs at with "normal" use. According to the iStat widget my CPU runs at around 60 degrees celsius when I'm just using iTunes/Safari/Adium/Mail. Nothing intense. I have a feeling it is way too hot.

which part? the area between the screen and the keyboard usually runs relatively hotter. Anyhow, mine ranges between 40 and 60, and my fans usually run at 2000 rpm. i'm not sure if i want to get the manual fan tool, because ive heard it might screw up my computer. I also don't want to open the thing and check for the ****ed up glue problem thing.
anyhow, yeah it does seem a little hot. does anyone know of a program similar to istat to run in xp using bootcamp? ive heard it heats up een more running xp, and i dont want it to melt anything while im playing solitaire

oh yeah i hear ya on the XP getting hotter. basically as soon as i boot into vista, my fans go on overload.
on a side note: now that it is cooler outside and in my apartment (aka not high 80's) and i propped the MBP up on a book for better airflow underneat, it has cooled down to 50 degrees celsius.

Mine is usually operating around 50-60 degrees when Im just surfing around on the web and using iTunes listening to my music. But this is dependant on the temperature in the room I am operating in.
Do keep this in mind. If you are working at home and it is 80 degrees in your house, dont expect the system to be running as cool as it coud be.

My SR MBP runs between 30 and 48 degrees Celsius depending on which part of the machine you're talking about. This is with Mail, Adium, iTunes, Firefox, and NewsFire running (so not much processor activity). Of course, I have smcFanControl bump my fans up to 4000rpms when I'm plugged in so it runs much cooler.

Can you run Vista with the Bootcamp and with the fans working ok?
This is one of my major problem - I can only run Vista in Parallels on the new MBP - it seems that when I boot to Vista the machine goes to more than 70 degrees as the fans do not work. The fans work great under OSX..
Any info may be useful..

That's a major bummer. Yeah, I'm running Vista Business through BootCamp and the fans run. I'm not sure of any, but I would imagine there is some kind of a fan control utility you could download for Windows. Also, did all of the drivers install properly when you installed Vista?

All drives installed ok but there was no fan control activity.. Did you download the standard bootcamp 1.3 or did you upgrade from 1.2 to 1.3. Once i tried upgrading on XP (not vista) and I had the fans working but I lost the 1.2 drivers CD and I could not try the experiment again.
Unfortunately at the moment the fans do not work. If you did upgrade can you send me a copy of the 1.2 drivers to try it again?
This is a major problem for me as I am doing application development and would have liked to be able to run the fans on bootcamp for XP and Vista..
No drivers failed to load and no error messages where received. Could it be that the fans work fine in OSX and for some non driver reason do not work in Vista? I would have imagined this cannot happen..
