Hi guys,
Is there a list of monitors models cheap and expensive that were tested, that will for sure work with Mini without giving too much trouble?

i don't know if there is such a list..but just thought I'd ask...

There is no need for such a list. Virtually all monitors are fine. The only issue might be if you use HDMI to HDMI, the Mini might treat te monitor as a TV instead of a monitor (thus adding overscan). Otherwise there is absolutely no reason for a list.

I'm sure many will pop in this thread with "My XXXX works great!" These comments will be unnecessary, but none the less will occur. #facepalm

This man speaks the truth.

I just connected an old monitor to "new" 2012 i7 mini using HDMI. How do I know if the Mini thinks it's a TV, or fix said problem?

It'll appear as fuzzy text and/or part of the screen will appear like it is outside of the visible screen. Worst case, you end up having to use an HDMI to DVI cable to "correct" the issue.

every once in a while my mini would do this with my 42inch lg tv that i use as a monitor.... when i upgraded to mavericks it nipped it in the bud

By the way it's the TV that does the overscan (the mac mini will send 1920x1080 just as if it's a monitor). The mac mini might use the 709-A HDTV colour space if it detects a TV though, this can be changed in the display preferences, just select sRGB 2.1 if it's a calibrated screen, otherwise select the one called "Color LCD".

One set of displays that are known to not work are Apple's older ADC Studio Displays with an ADC to DVI adapter. They simply aren't recognized by the Mini. A shame because those old 20" and 23" displays are still fairly nice.

Asus PB278Q my choice

Tried a few this is the best for the price, 2560 x 1440 like 27 inch iMac, must use display port to mini display port cable to get that resolution.

I just got the Dell U3014 30" and it works great with my 2012 Mac Mini. I had to get the Apple $99 display adaptor but I got the Dell on sale for $900 so it was about the same cost as an Apple 27".

My 27" iMac sits next to it and they both look great but the Dell is a little easier on my eyes for DAW work.

Another thread that I now can't find mentioned this one because it is very much like the glossy iMac display. I bought it for my Mini and I love it.

I got it for $209.99 in Canada at Staples.

*facepalm*
