Okay so this morning i started up fine...

Until i looked at the battery charge...... it says 0% even thought when i shut down last night it was at at least 50%!!!!

So i open coconut battery to see what reading it gives me and not only does it say that my battery is empty but it says that the total charge i will get is only 60% of the original charge......!!!!!!

I only got the NEW battery 3 months ago and about 2 days ago the same program (coconut battery) said teh battery's capacity was 99% of original!!!!!!!

I have been reading a few things recently about similar problems, does calibrating the battery solve any problems?

Whats goin on!!!!

Now i have been charging it for around 20 mins....

The battery reader says it has 98% original battery capacity!!!!

Something is amiss!!

let me get this right....

I had an iBook for years but as far as apples 'how tos' go the macbook pro is different and i wanna see if what i have been doin is correct...

Charge the battery to full... keep plugged in for around 2 hours... unplug the battery and let it drain, until it sleeps..... once asleep let it do so for around 5 hours then plug in and re charge?

Is this the correct way to calibrate the macbook pros battery!?

Sounds right except I never read about the having it fully charged for at least 2 hours thing on the apple site when it talks about how to calibrate. Could be I glossed over it because usually my battery has been fully charged for a while when I start using battery power.

that's how I understood their slightly hard to read calibration manual, too. (including the 2hr 'rest')

just did this two days ago for the first time on my three weeks old mbp - after a some eight hours in sleep mode the battery was totally gone and after having it recharged some 4hrs it started up from hibernation mode (copying back the ram content from the harddisk)

in 'istat pro' the battery status is still 96% after 8 cycles... seems to have done nothing for me... I wonder though about the 96% after 8 cycles, if this would be a linear degradation then the battery won't live very long :confused:

Just wondering: What is "coconut battery"? Does it display the battery charge? If yes, either it displays the same battery charge as MacOS X does. Then you don't need it. Or it doesn't display the same battery charge, then you should throw that program away.

Unless you rely on the built-in battery display, how can we know whether the problem is with your battery or with that coconut software?
