So all the text on my desktop icons & window title bars, and pull down menus has been replaced by little a's in a square. Looks as if the font fkle has vaporized? What the ????????

Thoughts? Ideas?

Tried re-booting, yes. But that's all I tried...I decided it was too wierd, and I was too tired, so I went to bed. It's my home machine, so I can't try your idea until tonight. Thanks!... and thanks in advance to any who have a thought on this wierdness. If this was a PC I would think virus..possible?

This is an imac G5, btw.

Not a virus, most likely just a corrupt font file, annoying and rare but not unheard of.

Fair point. :p

This is in Font Book which will be in the Applications folder by default. If you're having trouble finding Applications, press COMMAND-SHIFT-A in Finder. :)

You guys are the best. Thanks a million! I'll try it as soon as possible tonight. Actually I might even sneak home at lunch & give it a shot. It's a bad feeling knowing that something is wrong & I've got work to do tonight.

Well, I did the resolve duplicates thing...no effect. So I killed the font folder & replaced it with the one copied from my laptop. No effect. Then I got irritated & just said "ah screw it" and reinstaalled the OS. So it's all better, although I probably "overfixed" it. That was one weird problem, though.
