Looking to buy something new. Debating between new MacBook Pro 13in with Touch Bar or 9.7in iPad Pro. I currently have a late 2010 MacBook Pro 13in and a 3rd gen iPad. I'm not looking for a computer replacement. I would ditch my current device depending on which new device I purchase.

It really depends on your use and needs. If you give us an idea about your typical usage, we can be more helpful.

Normal personal use. Nothing particular (no gaming, no major photo or video editing). Done with school otherwise I would be dead set on the MacBook Pro.

If you have no Mac specific requirements, like Virtualization, dual boot, multi user accounts, drag and drop style file copying, access to external USB drives using file structure and read/write access, floating scalable multi windowed multitasking etc, then your needs could easily be met with a 9.7" iPad Pro.

I have a Mac desktop station for movie transfers, editing, scanning pictures and videos, media server and centralized backups but for daily routine tasks such as mail, web access, You Tube, Skype / Face Time, MS Office document handling, magazine reading and even playing games, my 9.7" iPad Pro is light, fast cost effective and the battery lasts the whole day. I also have the Apple Pencil to annotate documents and take hand written notes and draw sketches.

In your case, it looks like you may be happy with an iPad.

They're two different products,
I like the laptop form factor but needs are more at working and using a keyboard and mouse. My wife loves her iPad and wouldn't dream of using anything else.

I can't say which would be better for you, but if you're happy with the iPad product, that might be fine for surfing, emails, facebook and what not.
