Honestly, just posting to get feedback/thoughts and also a way for me to think it out. I have 2 hackintoshes. 1 at home (i9-9900k with a 580x) and one at work (i9-12900k with a 5600xt). Both work great and are pretty stable running the latest Monterey.
I have a 2018 15” MacBook Pro that I don’t really use and 2019 12.9 iPad Pro that I don’t really use.
Now, I don’t use the iPad Pro because, honestly it’s just too big to use in bed, but also not capable enough to be a laptop replacement.
So you ask, why not use the MacBook Pro? I feel that the 15” is just too clunky. Battery life is awful. Also, you basically can’t use it outside due to the thermal throttling. I couldn’t even edit a page in Wordpress because it was throttling so bad the other day. I just gave up.
Now, I’m not going to be doing a lot of hard core coding or video editing on this machine. I honestly don’t feel that I need a “pro”… but I do multitask ALOT.. I’m the guy with 80+ browser tabs open. But I also, do not believe in buying a machine that has 8gb of ram.. My hackintoshes have 64gb and my MacBook Pro has 32. I’ll settle for 16gigs…
Now. The question is do you spend 1800 on an air!? Or 2000 on a MacBook Pro.
I really like the air size.. but it’s not worth the $$$.
Sorry for the ramble.

You'd probably be fine with the M1 MacBook Air spec'd up with 16GB of RAM. And if you need more storage, up the SSD while you're at it. You could get it on the refurb store for just over a grand. Sell/trade your 15" MacBook Pro & iPad Pro 12.9.

If you have to have the new M2 Air with its new design, the model you want is the 8-core graphics spec'd up with 16GB & the 512 SSD for $1,599.

Beyond that you can't go wrong with the 14" MacBook Pro at $2,000.

Get the MBP. Now there are two models, the 13" and the 14" you can look at. Do not get an MBA.
