Im am planning on buying my mac pro soon however am worried about the price to upgrade to leopard when it is released. Do you think they will offer a upgrade or alow you to purchase for under $100? If not should i wait to buy? I really dont want to. One of my friends who is also in the market to buy one think he will probably attempt to come across a download of leopard once released. is this the way to go, as long as you dont get caught?

Apple only offers a cheap upgrade if you purchase a system within a couple of weeks before the updated OS is released. Otherwise it's the regular $129 for a single license or $199 for a family pack. Student rates are available.

And no, you're not going to find a lot people around here supporting software piracy.

Nope, Leopard will ship in 2007 -- which is a long way from the usual $19.95 Mac OS X up-to-date service.

Anyhow the Up-to-date program is only an update DVD -- you still need to buy a full copy of Leopard if you want to install it on a machine that cannot be updated.

But you should be able to get a student copy or do some other tricks to reduce your cost.

Leopard will be out in 6+ months. You and your mate should get your Mac Pros now and get the family pack when Apple launches their Spring ´07 collection. The earlier you get the computer, the longer you´ll have to wait for Leopard, making the upgrade price more reasonable.

When Panther came out, i was seriously considering downloading it. But then i went to the Apple site and looked at it, all the effort developers put into it, and I realised it wouldn't only be illegal, it would be offensive to download Mac OS. Strange; i dont really have anything against downloading windows and its programs, but something just seems wrong about illegally downloading programs for Mac OS. I think I can't be alone here, otherwise they would have an activation key for installation.

The MacPro will fly with 10.5, as the G5 flew with the upgrade from 10.2.8 to 10.3. If you need it now, buy it now, but if you can wait, i would recommend waiting.
