Hi,
I have a macbook pro from 2017 - about a year ago or maybe 2 I had to take it to the apple store in Bangkok where I lived and they changed the screen cable or sometihng as the screen was black. They said it as a known issue for the model and actually did it for free which was nice.

A year or so on and the same issue is no happening again, to a lesser extent but still. Means all the colours are messed up and my screen has to be at a certain angle, nearly shut, for me to see the proper colours of the screen.

I don't have a lot of money as I am between jobs - Should I buy the macbook air or the macbook pro - I need it for work and for video editing for youtube channel and my website business.

Please let me know what I should do. Also, I now live in europe not bangkok.

Thanks

If you are comparing the 2020 M1 MBP with the 2020 M1 MBA they basicly have the same performance. The difference is that the Pro has active cooling with a fan that prevents throttling down performance due to heat during prolonged high workloads. If you are doing a live streaming or rendering longer videoclips you might benefit from the pro. For daily officework no difference.

I have a 2020 M1 MacBookPro and have still not heard its fans. But I do think I benefit from it, have done a couple livestreams with multiple cameras in OBS, but the stressful live-situation and other noise around probably disguised the soft fan-noise, if it was there :)

I have an M1 MacBook Air. It's a great machine and I like the fanless design and proper function keys (rather than the TouchBar on the 13" Pro). There will be no noticeable difference with the 13" Pro under normal conditions, but it should be a big performance improvement over the 2017 MBP (should be at least 2x - try one in store if you can). I have never noticed it throttling down, but I don't use it for video editing. I do use it for compilation etc. I went for the 8-GPU, 16GB option with 256GB SSD. The memory bump is definitely worthwhile. I'm not sure about the GPU: I can't see any quantitative data on the performance difference and I haven't really noticed it. It wasn't a big price difference for me, but since it's build-to-order you might not find it on a deal.

There are often offers available - I got mine for about 20% below list price on a Black Friday deal.
