So I'm eligible, or nearly so, for a new subsidized iPhone. I have a 3G, bought about a month after its intro. Probably will wait and see what - if anything - comes down the iPhone pike this summer before making the purchase.

My question is what will I be able to do with my 3G, other than offer it for sale or give it to someone else (after wiping it, of course)? I presume the SIM card will be moved to the new iPhone, or is that not true?

Wondering if the older phone could be kept as a spare, swapping the SIM card as needed. I might prefer to use the older phone if I went out on a boat or something, just so I wouldn't have to worry about damage to the newer unit.

I'm not looking to cheat and have two active phones, just to be able to swap the SIM around and take the phone I choose to on a given day.

If it's not possible, that's OK, too. I presume it'll still work as an "iPod Touch" without the SIM?

Thanks,

Needs a sim in it to work but yes u can swap back and forward between the two.
