I think it is a 2015, it could be 2014? I'm not sure at the moment because the hard disk doesn't boot. I get the flashing ? when it tries so I'm assuming it is the hard disk.
I thought about using it as a desktop for a project that doesn't require any new software. I can boot from a USB external drive that I bought today for something else finding out that it isn't going to fit in the specific enclosure I bought it for. I will need to find my other enclosure that will fit it. I didn't realize the 5 TB drives were so tall and will not fit into the enclosure used for my M1 Mini. Instead of returning the drive, I thought I might attempt to use it as the external for the other 2015 Mini.
The hard part will be getting the whatever OS was available for the Mini at that time since I can't boot from the mini. If I create an emergency disk from my M1 Mini, do I get a list of MacOS systems to install, or will it only list the options for the M1? Is there any other way to grab a copy of the OS for that older machine and install it on the drive? Will the old Mini even recognize a 5 TB drive?
Obviously, I've been out of my tech element for a while
Thanks for the help.
