I fix a macbook or two once every while and I have a lot of these screens laying around with faulty panels or flexgate issues.

Should I just toss them into recycling or is there anything useful to salvage from it?

See if apple is willing to recycle them
You mean contact my local Apple store to ask if they would recycle them? Hmm I don't know man. This is the company that glues batteries to topcases, uses propietary components and tells you that 3 year old devices are "vintage" and not worth repair. I guess asking doesn't hurt..
