I am getting my new macbook for christmas in a few days. right now it has a 60 gb hdd with leopard and only 512mb of ram. is http://www.edgetechcorp.com/store/productdetails.aspx?product_id=6357 a good brand ram? Also i dont know what to do first with my macbook. I am probably going to use bootcamp and put xp on there but besides that i cant decide.

never heard of that company get crucial

put in a buy a bigger HD too so dont get carried away installing stuff until you do that or you will have to install it all over again, unless you want to try and back it all up

get 2 Gigs of Corsair PC5300 DDR2 certified for MAC

and with 60 gig of space, i wouldn't recommend you to install Windows based OS

at least get 160 to do Dual Booting

oh btw, if you dont know what to do with your new Macbook, then why purchased it in the 1st place? =)

That depends on your needs, ram will help with over all speed and performance of your laptop. I went with ram and purchased a external drive for storage.

i'd say go with the ram first also...
leopard def. needs more than 512mb ram to run smoothly...i am currently using it with 1gb of ram and it sometimes gets slow so i am planning on upgrading to 2gb also.

Same here. If I could, I'd max out my iMac right now.

Though, even with the 250GB HDD, space is becoming an issue. Though I have an insane amount of movies and I do audio editing regularly with my band, so that probably explains why.

thanks for all of the help guys. im gonna be getting the 2gb of ram soon and does anyone know of a cheap affordable harddrive? external would probably be ok and i would only put really important stuff on the internal 1. also is it possible to have like half of my itunes music on internal and half on external? once again thanks for all of the help.:)

If you are going to get an external hd you might want to consider a casing with firewire built in...

I feel that firewire is a lot faster than usb under mac.
other than that there are quite a few online shops that sell hds pretty cheap...I guess you'll have to google depending on where you live.

for the us I have heard that newegg.com is quite cheap.

Here are some links of some RAM modules by good companies:

$39.99

Kingston makes great memory modules. Typically, I find that they're overpriced, but these are actually priced reasonably.

CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Notebook Memory Model VS2GSDSKIT667D2 - Retail
$39.99

Corsair is another great company. I have had some of their desktop memory in my 1.5 year old desktop, and not any problems.

Crucial 2GB (2 x 1GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Notebook Memory - Retail
$44.99

People on here rave about Crucial, so here is a link to some of their memory modules. I personally wouldn't spend any extra money for the crucial memory. They certainly aren't the top dog they used to be a few years ago. There are other brands, like Kingston, OCZ, Corsair, Patriot, G.SKILL, mushkin, PNY is decent if you're not overclocking.

definately more ram, I upgraded to 2gb the first week i got my macbook and what a difference! :D

I'm not quite sure what you mean here. You're getting a new MacBook, but it sounds like it has the specs of the first gen MacBooks. Are you getting a second hand MacBook?

Anyway, it's a computer. Just do with it what you'd normally do with one.
