What to do with old iphone

I had an old 1G iphone that I recently upgraded to an iphone 3G. All good.

So, now I got this old 1G iphone that just sits in my sound dock and runs pandora. I'm nervous to plug it into my mac again being as I'm afraid it will try and update the firmware on it - and in doing so will want to activate it and it will die.

So, any suggestions on what to do with it? I wouldn't mind unlocking it and playing around with it. Can I unlock a turned off iphone? Can I use it like a touch? Can I move it to verizon?

Thanks all - I can't see anyone asking about disconnected iphones anywhere!

you can unlock it and put whatever sim you want into it. you can use it as an ipod touch. no you cant use it on the verizon network.

borntomac, how much are you willing to give for one?

I think I'm up for renewal. I have a all black 2g iPhone.
 
To be honest, minimal. I am waiting for the iPhone 2,1 to be released in June/July, but I ma anxious to start jailbreaking. My old lady has a first gen and I am toying around with the idea of buying her a 3g, taking her 1st gen, and then updating to 2,1 when it is released. PM me if you want to discuss further.
